New Years Devlog - January 2026

Hey Rangers!

Happy Holidays everyone! We're officially in the new year now, 2026... feels weird how quickly the last year went! But alas, we've been taking a break from working on the game during the holidays so we can kick back into full gear and get to work! Thankfully though, we have something exciting to show off, so let's get into all of that now!

Year in Review - 2025

Last year was absolutely insane for the game, especially since we officially launched Bushside Rangers out into the world with Chapter 1: The Desolate Land! Although it's overall not our best work, it was made independently by me, Daniella Garner, and for that reason I'm personally quite proud of it since I basically handled EVERYTHING about it. With the game launching though, led to an influx of Youtubers playing the game. I want to give a huge thank you to Dawko, SuperHorrorBro and FusionZGamer for making videos on it and getting the game out there! I know their thoughts on it overall weren't as positive as I would've liked, but the fact that it happened in the first place makes me tear up even now, and I'm glad things went the way they did. Here's to hoping they play the Chapter 1 Overhaul when it releases....

With the launch of the OG Chapter 1 came fans eagerly wanting more of the game, and so I made the announcement trailer for Chapter 2: Lonely Ruins, said to be "in development now". Obviously, this isn't so much the case now, but it would encourage me to make posts asking for new team members to assist me with development, and this is when ArtyDoesStuff privately messaged me. We discussed the game, what they liked and what they didn't like, and this eventually led to Arty joining the team as a writer, which THEN became Project Manager, Writer, Texture Artist, and so many other roles.... I don't know how Arty does it, but oh my goodness they've been a HUGE help in everything really. Massive thank you to them for shaping the game into something so much better than I could've ever made on my own.

Anyways, we've had so many more team members join the team since then. Team Bushside as a development team has gone from just me, to a team of 15 talented individuals, and we're all working very hard on bringing an amazing experience to all of you with this game. This game has grown much bigger than I originally intended it to, and I'm so glad that it has. Thank you all so much for making the game what it is now, what it will be soon enough. Which, on that note, let's get into what you're all probably here for.

Chapter 1 Overhaul - Devlog and Preview

Although we slowed down with December coming around, we're still making a lot of progress overall! We've got the entire overhaul planned out, started writing the script, and began grey-boxing the entire chapter, and we're slowly but surely making progress. Our most finished area at the moment is the entrance to the park, and we've got a preview for you guys!

It's still very much work-in-progress, but here is your first proper look at the Chapter 1 Overhaul!

The biggest thing we're proud of is the weather system we've implemented. It looks so, so much more detailed and beautiful than the original Chapter 1 ever did, with the rain droplets hitting the ground and the lightning making everything bright, the camera having the rain fall across it.\

We wish we could show you all more of what we're cooking up, but admittedly there's not very much we can actually show. A lot of development time has been spent planning out the overhaul and the rest of the game, so unfortunately we haven't been working on the game itself as much as we would've liked to. With that being said though, a lot of our planning is finished, which means we're gonna be doubling down on proper development of the game, and the preview above shows what we've cooked up since getting back into the swing of things, so worry not!

Anyways, that's all we have for you guys at the moment. Sorry for the short-ish devlog, we'll have more for you guys very, very soon...

Thank you so much for reading!
